Build The Smartest Urban Development In Africa With ATTACQ And LaunchLab. The world of retail is changing, and ATTACQ, one of Africa’s leading real estate developers, is looking to partner with startups and new innovative companies to offer a cutting-edge experience in their existing and new developments.

August 2017 to June 2018

In 2016, ATTACQ and LaunchLab partnered to use technology to change the face of retail.  After filtering through 86 applications, shortlisting 11, selecting 6, we then trimmed that down further to 4 startups.

In 2017, we were looking at Smart Cities, as ATTACQ continues with its development at Waterfall City, a startup urban node between Pretoria and Johannesburg that is the new home to PwC, Deloitte, Colgate Palmolive, Cipla, and others.

Smartphone apps that guide you to a parking space according to where you need to be today.  No assigned desks. Electric vehicles moving you from meeting to meeting with no effort from yourself. Hallways that watch you. Interactions with key contacts that seem totally “by chance.”

We are looking for entrepreneurs with solutions that address opportunities in:

Location technologies

Transportation

Security

“Black screen” technology

Loyalty

Technology to improve experiences in spaces where people live, work and play

Winners will receive a portion of R100,000 prize money, business support and space from the LaunchLab, and opportunities to do business directly with ATTACQ.

Challenge Details

The LaunchLab team as well as a group of executives from ATTACQ  hosted a workshop in Stellenbosch to engage with the startup community around this smart cities challenge. We recorded it so that we could capture the conversation for all of those who would like to engage with ATTACQ and LaunchLab on this challenge.

The purpose of the workshop was to give entrepreneurs as much info as possible on what ATTACQ is looking to partner with so that real businesses can be built and partnered with.

Progress

ATTACQ and LaunchLab are working with these businesses to help them develop and launch their startups:

  • Drop – On-demand car-washing service
  • YShop – On-demand grocery shopping service
  • Appmit – App that allows payment for and access to space
