Student Hub is an educational service provider with an innovative technology solution platform where students can buy, sell or rent textbooks and access study support.
Founded by Hertzy Kabeya in 2015, the company provides services to students at education institutions in South Africa and Africa. The company’s founder, Hertzy, is also the Managing Director and he runs the company alongside the Chief Marketing Officer, Imrah Gilwa.
The team at Student Hub wants to create a world where options to access and comprehend information are multiplied and where willingness to learn is the only attribute required to become an expert in any field. The company is extending its initial e-commerce platform by adding an e-learning component where students can access study support tools. According to Hertzy, the rapid pace of technological developments in the information age creates a myriad of opportunities to deliver information to users in networked economies and societies more affordably. “The delivery of learning information used at tertiary education institutions and ease of learning the content shouldn’t come at premium prices. Through our platform, we provide innovative services; solutions and trade processes to facilitate ease of the learning journey for students by facilitating learning support, making access to prescribed textbooks accessible and affordable”, says Hertzy.
In September 2015, Hertzy pitched the Student Hub idea in the Education Technology (Edutech) vertical at the LaunchLab’s Ideas Programme Pitching Platform where the idea was one of 9 winners and the company was awarded seed funding. The winners are now part of the LaunchLab’s Lift-Off Programme which is an incubation programme for LaunchLab residents. The programme is customised to the needs of the business and to equip founders with the skills and knowledge they need to take the business to launch and beyond. The founders are matched with mentors and coaches who work with them to accelerate them to a new level.
Aspiring and practicing entrepreneurs who want to be part of the LaunchLab are invited to pitch their business idea in this semester’s LaunchLab Ideas Programme. For more information about the Ideas Programme Pitching Platform opportunities, go to www.launchlab.co.za/about/ideas. There is an opportunity to pitch your media idea to MultiChoice and win your share of R100,000 in seed funding or win a share of over R150,000 in incubator support and services as part of one of our other vertical challenges.
Student Hub has operations in Observatory, Cape Town and also operates from the Nedbank Stellenbosch University LaunchLab in Stellenbosch. To learn more about Student Hub, visit their website at www.thestudenthub.co.
